Honor Fest – BP

I had the privilege of being a part of Honor Fest at Salem Memorial Ballpark last Saturday. It was the first year for the event designed to raise money for several local non-profits that benefit our nation’s veterans. There was a resource fair for veterans, a post game concert and, the main event, a softball game pitting a team of local media folks & celebrities versus a team of local veterans.

When I got to the ballpark, I went out to the center field wall and sat on the warning track for about 20 minutes. Why? Well, it was my only chance to take in the sights on Haley Toyota Field without getting arrested for trespassing. (Tee-Hee) After that, Zack and I threw the ball around for a few minutes and then it was time for the pre-game ceremonies followed by the game.

I pitched (we lost) and I had two ABs (I went 0-2) but I still had a blast. My favorite part, though, was being able to thank the awesome veterans we shared the field with for their service. Without them, none of the stuff we get to do in our every day lives is possible. At the end of the day, and a wee bit of sunburn, I was thrilled with the way things turned out.

Can’t wait until next year!
