UPDATE: SML burglary suspect arrested, most property recovered

A Roanoke man is under arrest for a Smith Mountain Lake-area burglary that was captured in surveillance photos. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says 40-year-old Anibal Martinez Gonzalez has confessed to the crime, and most of the stolen property was recovered at his residence, then returned to the victims.

UPDATED NEWS RELEASE: An arrest has been made in the above property theft incident. Anibal Gustavo Martinez Gonzalez, 40 years old of Roanoke, was arrested on Wednesday, July 28th, 2021. A full confession of the crime was obtained, and most of the stolen property was located at his residence during a search warrant. The suspect has been charged with Grand Larceny and the recovered stolen property has been returned to the victims.

PREVIOUS: On July 25th, 2021, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a stolen enclosed trailer that contained equipment and power tools. The trailer was stolen from the Bridgewater Area of Franklin County and has since been located in Roanoke. All of the tools and equipment were stolen from inside of the trailer. The suspect and his vehicle can be seen in the attached images. The vehicle appears to be a grey Dodge pickup with rust damage on the back rear fender.
